History of the Nation Part 1

Amazon History is recorded in the Book of Blood, an extensive collection of Stories, Anthologies and Lineages. Each Ozikon and Amazon family has it's own Book of Blood. Within the Book are detailed the histories of the Amazons from their ascension out of a plagued mountain Valley, to their rise in Thrace a thousand years later.

Thousands of years ago a plague struck a small mountain valley. Many in the village died in that time and many of the men that once protected the village and farmed the land died in pained silence. It was during that time that the wife of the passed Chieftain fell into a fevered dream. Surviving the disease she awoke after several days of hallucinations to speak of a new faith. The woman said that in her dreams a snow leopard spirit had come to her. The creature calling itself a Totem told her to cast off the old way and to persevere like the mountain. It was during these days that the foundation of the Amazon Faith of today was laid.

The tribe of the valley left and with that struck out into the open plain. During these times the great Saka clans had come from the middle Steppe and were building their grand kingdoms. For the first few years the lone tribe wandered living as it could. It learned over time however that those blooded of the women from the days of the plague were strong. No illness or fell air could strike them down. they learned to defend themselves. As plague and sickness. Under the tutelate of the First Chieftainess the tribe trained in war for protection. As generations passed and wars with the Saka turned to wars with the Sarmatian Nomads the tribe expanded. No longer were they wandering without hope, they were warriors, they were Strong.

Generations of nomadic on horseback life hardened the farmers that had once eked out a life in the cool mountain valleys. The line of Chieftainesses split as the tribe became disparate clans spread across the steppe. Time moved on as the people took to war more easily and raided other tribes. During this time the ancestral Amazo spoke a mixture of Scythian and old Indo-Aryan tongues. Eventually their tribal tongue would evolve into the Amazo-Persian variant that the Ionians would encounter centuries later. It was under the great grand mother of Oretera a woman whose name has been lost time. Under this great woman the adherents of the original First Totem, the SnowLeopard, would rise to prominence as mercenaries in the Southern Lands of the Achaens. The real martial ferocity of those early years was truly trying.

For centuries the tribe had fought from horse back with bow and spear. Never had they fought in such battles. Long since the old ways of small skirmishes gone and now came the time of true war. Three generations saw the rise of the Kamakazaran (Indo-Aryan meaning "Those who make war") Mercenaries fighting for various factions across the states bordering the Aegean and the Black Sea.

A new Ozikon and a new character

The Girl who stood.

She's one of my new characters and I absolutely love her. She's part of a new StormCrow Ozikon called the Anɲarathez. Descended from one of the women who traveld with Presenthilsea against the Achaens in the war of Troy. Her Queen cut down in war, Antrandre or Anɲarathosh fought bravely but was cut down by the Demon Achilles. To this day the members of her Bloodline are ferocious fighters and do not take lightly to injustice. Loyal many of the Ozikon can be found in Russia and the Ukraine.

It has been a long time, update for christmas :)

So a word came up today, well two words: Zeutheunth Ɲythones

This is dealing with the body marks found on all Amazones. These are called the painted stories or simply Zeutheunth Ɲythones. The words in Amazo literally mean "Paint stories" on me. It's a passive statement and because it lacks many of the clitics used to mark Aspect, Tense and Mood, it can be hard to understand. This is how in many cases the names of certain things exist. Amazo is a fickle language that in translation certain terms and names are almost completely impossible to understand. However it does create some interesting affluent sounds that give the language it's richness.

The Painted Stories are the carefully hellenic styled tattoos found on all Amazons. Usually center to these marks are a back tattoo depicting either the Ozikon founder or the other important figures to the Amazon's life. Usually the Stories begin on either the left or right arm. Carefully over time they are added to and once someone dies they are displayed as a way to tell the persons story. Clan Totems and particular honored dead are also important in the stories as are personal achievements.

The Painted Stories have their origin in the Pazyryk Culture totemic body tattoos. It is a tradition dating back thousands of years and is kept proudly by the Amazon Nation. To this day every young Amazon child discusses his or her future Stories and what they wish to have inked into their skin. Those that betray the nation often will find their tattoos purposely targeted in combat. It is considered highly insulting and arrogant to wear a tattoo if one is not an Amazon OR if they have left the Nation.

The SilkenSpider Clan

The final major Clan of the Nation was founded three years after the first colonies of the Spanish lords came upon Hispaniola. During the Reconquista many Amazon women and men had bled into the population of lower Iberia. Many of them being of both IronCobra and RunningHorse. The foundation of the SilkenSpider would not establish itself till after the wayward colonial communities were united during the Civil War era. With the creation of the US and eventual founding of the Dominion of Canada the Colonial Amazons slowly coalesced as new traditions and a new Amazo dialect appeared. Over time as new Ozikon were founded from the first few settlers, the SilkenSpider wove itself together as a Clan of mixed varied descent.

The SilkenSpider are in the modern age the most phsycially varied of all Clans. They also have the highest amount of adopted Amazons and often encourage marrying outsiders. They also have the lowest amount of the Amazonian immunities to respiratory problems. This meant when the influenza outbreak hit the Amazonian population in America hard. Several families were lost and those left did their best to remain. By the time of the 20th century began the SilkenSpider had been reduced to small enclaves in the Northeast and the Northwest. Steady expansion and immigration in the following years saw a soaring of the Amazon population but only a steady incremental increase for the SilkenSpider.

By the year 2000 the Clan had restablizled and had become known as a gang in several cities because of the Clan's spider web tattoo art.

Case System update for Amazo

When I worked on and fleshed out the verbal system for Amazo I forgot to go back and update the Case notes. So there have been a few updates, and including a few redundancies that are making the system a bit complex. For example when someone is punished such as in the sentence, "I was punished for what I did." The first part I was is in the Dative case because 'I' was given punishment. The second part I did is in the genitive because I am then owning my action that caused the punishment.

Another update is the usage of emphatsis in Amazo. Unlike Ancient Greek, Amazo does not have a separate ending or inflection for emphatic usage. What it does is assume the vocative case towards the part of the sentence that needs to be emphasize. What this means is if you are emphasizing something such as "I did do it" the part about 'did' would be replaced by the Vocative marker before the emphasize unit of the clause.

To say hello in Amazon one says, "Arteɲei Shuɲle" which means Artemis with you.

To say good bye, one says "Fyhen Shush" which means Spirits to you.

Kind of simplistic but these are the two basic greetings / farewells I have right now. Enjoy that and updated case system :)

The IronSerpent Clan

Years ago, a tribe of the Amazon Nation called the Gorgons fled south with the fall of Themiscyra. They were made up of the southern auxiliaries and merchant families from the North African provinces of the Roman Empire. For a time they lived along the lake Tritonus before scattering into the North African Kingdoms and sub-Saharan tribes of the continent.

The IronSerpent originally followed the Saintly woman Medusa, a member of the Honored Dead and said to be cursed by the horrid betrayer Athena. (Athena is consider a traitor compared to her sister Artemis). They are perhaps the most extensive clan culturally in their diversity to purpose. Descended from the southern Armies that once defended the coast of Amazonia, they retained their military heritage but unlike the LongTalons they melded more into the local tribes than other Amazones.

Physically the IronSeprent are dark skin but often have either an Ehtiopian or Berber look to their appearance. Extensive intermarrying with tribes such as the Amazigh (Tuareg) has also resulted in the adoption of face wrappings for their priestesses and a subtle shifting to their clan's mask practice. IronSerpent clan masks are often made out of cloth or movable material to create more of a veil. In this they are unique compared to other Amazonian Clans.

Negation and Compound words, Amazon Martial Arts

Whoa, while since I posted a blog.

So the Amazon Dictionary which I will be putting up as a PDF in the future has yet to be finished. The current word count is 20 something words and counting. I have a bunch of verbs and I'm using a Classical Greek vocab to create the starting word list.

So negation within Amazo! Negation is done by first deciding what needs to be negated. If the sentence is active, aka the Agent is doing something to the experience the arguments of the verb determine that the Negation marker goes before the Subject and then the Verb. That means that in an Amazo clause the neg marker is Neg+verb-voice, and Neg+noun/subject. Basically Amazo featgures DOUBLE negation if to state the obvious :)

Now something else that I added recently is the usage of Crasis to create new nouns. In English we have a massive list of suffixes that create words out of verbs or other nouns! In Amazo you create the meaning of this by finding the desire noun or verb and then attaching another pronoun or corresponding noun to it. So Scientist would translate when done in Amazo to roughly "He/she/it who does science!"

Also, the vocative marker is now also used to create emphatic units of a clause.

Sin' ages by one year and a bit on Amazo Reflexives

So I turned 22 today awesome!

Anyway, a quick bit on what I am considering for Amazon reflexives. There is already a somewhat reflexive nature to middle voice in that it is used to describe an action was committed against the person by themselves. In a way this is a reflexive which makes me decide that middle voice is how the Amazon's express an action they did themselves. This only applies if the experience of the action is in fact the one stating the usage of the reflexive so "I am myself" may use the middle voice, where as "I cooked dinner myself" uses the ablative case on the one committing the action. This means that the action was done "of" the agent, therefore the agent acknowledging they did the action.

Kind of confusing but it's to prevent the confusing of who is committing what action against whom.

Whoa, introducing Liam Sweeney!

After finally finishing the POV for Eleni and Deren I have moved on finally to introduce the first villain, Liam Sweenney! Also I've posted roughly 3,000 words on arrowchild.wordpress.com. Some people have noted the word errors, and I wanna say that's good! I want to be able to easily edit it when the draft is done, as right now I'm focusing on getting the main part written.

Anyway a few notes about Liam, he is a former IRA soldier, and well he's not a nice guy. To be honest, he'll probably be the most brutal character in the storyline. However, he was a young kid who grew up during the troubles and honestly is part of a fringe group of the group. I want to say that though some characters are obviously cruel, they have a reason for it. This is not a black and white story, even Eleni has her issues (she's a complete brat to everyone right now for one!)

Quick update on Amazo, the singular pronouns are done! Plus I changed the rules on the ejective k' when being used in the middle of words.

A quick bloggling 2

In the Amazon faith there are five core Truths. Note this religion is evolving as I write the basics of it. Note, I am doing this because honestly I want them to have a religion. So, yes, I am being obsessive!

The current elemental Truth is Wind, taught to the Amazon Nation right after their original clan was struck down by the Plague. From this event they learn of the Truest Destiny, a concept that leads to the enlightenment of the Greatest Rapture. Basically the path one takes to realize the Ultimate reality and in correspondence that lead to the creation of the nine major tenants of the religion. The Five Elemental Truths are keyed into the first Five Major Totems, witch each subsequent Totem adding to the Five.

Amazon Religion Part 2

The Amazon Faith will have an official name in the future as will their holy book. However, right now I've decided to do a bit more on their beliefs and key tenants.

So further ado here are the basic tenants of the faith.

  1. Strong mind and strong body
  2. Respect and venerate the Honored Dead
  3. Arteɲei is the Supreme Soul of the Ultimate Reality
  4. Arteɲei is forever merciful and kind, except for the unjust.
  5. The Spirits are extensions of the Universal Mind
  6. The Spirits are everywhere and in everyone
  7. Arrow Children are Divinely Inspired.
  8. Sword Sisters are justice manifested
  9. Shield Mothers are the Martyrs that provide inspiration for all
These are some of the core beliefs of the Amazo Religion. Another belief is in a heavenly experience simply called the Great Rapture. By following the tenants of Arteɲei one can enter a state of Rapture that is not unlike the Buddhist Nirvana.

The New Blog

The new blog which is being used for the serial of Arrow Child can be found at http://arrowchild.wordpress.com/.

I have no idea when I will be updating it, or if I'll have an update schedule @@. But it's probably going to be roughly 500-100 words or so every few days or once a week.

Some changes in the general plan...

It's been a week and I've been thinking about Arrow Child a lot. The one thing is that I'm thinking it's going to be part of a general trilogy called the Second Rise of Amazonia. Kind of lame, but that's the project name for now. So this is still going to be my main blog for all things Amazon. In fact I plan on using Shadow's Sin as my notes and general ideas area. I have a lot of plot to work out, but I now have an idea of what happens in the long run. Including the main villains and who the Arrow Child is.

The one major difference that is going to be happening is that I'm going to start sketching out the story into sections which will later on be organized into chapters. Basically I'll write a section, part blank, and when it ends so does that chapter. Some might be wondering (those who actually might read this) where and when its going to show up. Well, after a bit of thinking I've made a decision. Arrow Child is going to become an active serial. This means that it's going to be posted onto a new blog (solely for it) where people can read it and comment. This will be an active draft free to the public. When the book is finished I'll reorganized it a bit, get it started on the editing and then begin work on the sequel.

Arrow Child will feature full sentences in Amazo, not fully dialogue lines but songs and comments. The point of Amazo is to create a more authentic atmosphere for the Amazonian Diaspora. I've gotten the last and most updated copy of the notes and I'll be picking up on the language very soon!

A Short Bloggling

The Amazons are a people scattered throughout the world. They are found among many ethnicities and have intermarried for generations. First and foremost an Amazon is loyal to the nation, and then to their clan. They are people united by blood and religion.

Today would have more but my laptop died. So I have lost a few of my current papers on Amazo. I should hope to have it back soon, otherwise I'll have to redo all of the information.

Shamans and Priestesses...and something else

Amazon Religious Leaders and Clergy
"Daughter, you are the blood of the Strong. Born from 'Those who are' and 'Those who shall be'. You are Amazon, a child of the Steppe and the ancient lines of the honored dead."
-Codex, Book of Ancestors Chapter 1, Line 2

Amazons are lead by the will of the spirits, or they were in times past. In the modern day, the Codex is often seen as a simple gathering of texts and ancient scrolls. Hand written down and copied perciesly as it was originally wrote, the Codex is the core doctrine of the Amazon religion. However, the true interpreters of the Codex are not a singular priesthood nor clergy.

In the Amazon Faith, one can either become a Shamanka, or one of the Priestess of the Lady. The Shamanka give the words of the Totems and in turn devote themselves to one of the Clan Spirits (another term for Totem). They are the voices and interpreters of the will and seek the guidance of them. Shamanka also exist as the guides for the inspiration taken from the honored dead. Often the Shamanistic aspect of Amazon faith requires more oral knowledge than written.

The Amazon priestesses are those who teach from the Codex and guide the Nation as religious clergy. They much like a Mullah or Rabbi teach the rules and laws of the Nation. For if an Amazon is to purely live up to the Lady they must fully understand how she is the Soul of all Amazons. Which in time hopefully helps a young Amazon understand her connection to the greater universe via Arteɲei.

New Possible Clans
Herodotus spoke of the Gorgons. A tribe of women that lived near an island (the full name escaping me). This caught my attention after I read a book detailing several possible origins for the Amazones in history. One thing I found interesting was that these "Gorgons" were also related to Medusa (note I do know that by defintion Medusa as a monster is a Gorgon :) ).

I have for a while thought about how to connect this tribe to the Amazones. And in truth I find them not unlike the other Lost Clans. In this manner I plan on developing them more and adding to the Nation as they grow in my mind.

Current name ideas:

CoiledViper
StrikingSerpent
GhostSerpent

The new totem teaches the ideals of Patience, Decisive Action, and Careful planning.

Arrow Child Excerpt
This is a few paragraphs from my current draft of the Arrow Child story...

Arrow Child - A Tale from the Amazon Diaspora
"The steppe was cold that winter. A winter so cold that even after the coming of spring the area was still silent. The landscape was old, and so was the mound that inhabited it. Erected over a thousand years in the past by roving nomadic tribes, it was a testament to the ingenuity of the mounted warriors that had survived the land millennia ago. A large thing created from earth and piled rock. The mound was very old, a kurgan, a burial place where the honored dead were put to sleep.

The kurgan was mostly over grown and hard to find among the rolling hills of the Ukrainian plains. Many like it had been found in by grave robbers and archaeologists alike in the past. Several were looted, and the lucky few had their treasures found and saved. For some reason, this one had never found. Something about it kept even the most daring looter away. By all accords it was the kurgan of a lost Scythian warlord. A chieftain who had fought in many battles and who had supposedly been slain by the Romans or by other accounts Heracles himself.

Years had the chieftain stood in his cold grave. So many that there was no record of whom he might be. Only the fragment records from excavated kurgan and stolen scrolls gave any hint even to the supposed location. These fragments were what lead Stephen Doukas to the far away place. The burial site was far enough from the road to be somewhat difficult to get to. It also blended it into the surrounding area, almost to the point that it seemed the mound had been purposely camouflaged.

Stephen was a man determined. After extensive study in Oxford and other prestigious schools from Britain and America, he had developed an obsession. It had taken months before he realized it. For some reason one single pot shard to had him to this location. It had all started when he had come across a man claiming to have access to an old Scythian piece of pottery. Just a fragment, it was covered in Ioanian Greek lettering. It was something that caught his eye right away.

Without thinking Stephen had spent the next year searching down and locating more pieces of the pot. The first fragment contained broken lettering and though he didn’t know the actual language Stephen had hired a translator out of Athens specializing in ancient Greek dialects to discern it and the other fragments he found. After many months of piecing it all together he found the mention of a supposed Scythian warlord who had fallen to the wrath of Heracles himself. As a Greek and an archaeologist, the possibility of finding a relic linking the modern day to the mythological past the opportunity was more than he could imagine.

So it was within moments of the day coming to fruition at noon that a jeep follow by several others of its kind made their way along the plains road. Only a few mentions from the locals and notes from other kurgan had given them a vague idea of where the location. After the road gave way to unending steppe they pushed on. It took hours and they would keep going. Finding the mound was what mattered, and then opening it to see what lay within."

A bit on Amazon religion and family

Basics of Amazon Faith
Amazon Religion is a combination of Animistic, Pantheistic and Monotheistic beliefs. They believe in Spirits. Everything has a spirit, from the small pebble on the shore to the soul of the Amazon nation itself (Arteɲei). The Amazonian people have for years kept alive their native religion via a written accord simply called the Codex. A gathered source of documents and scrolls detailing their old rituals and their history as a people. One aspect of the Codex is how it plays into the Amazon Clan system.

Amazons are split into roughly (currently) four clans: Snowleopard, Runninghorse, Longtalon and Stormcrow.

Each Clan is in turn descended as a group from a powerful Spirit Totem. The Totems are the most powerful spirits worshiped by their individual clans and are the guiding forces behind the people of their clan. Clans often pay respects to another Clan's totem, but they do not call upon it in faith. That is for the named Clan ONLY. So Snowleopard Clanswoman do not look to Runninghorse as a guiding spirit or as a source of faith. They pay homage to Snowleopard alone as a source of wisdom.

Each Totem also symbolizes a given aspect. Snowleopard means wisdom, motherhood and life. Runninghorse is strength, sincerity and passion. Longtalon (whose totem is a Steppe Eagle) represents acumen, agility and learning. Stormcrow symbolizes intelligence, adaption and survival. Besides the four clan totems there is the ultimate or Soul Totem. Who the Amazons call Arteɲei, or in the Greek, Artemis. Arteɲei is the mother of all Amazones and is considered the very soul of the Nation. She is the inspiration for all Arrow Children (prophets or great leaders) who have led the nation in times of peril.

In Amazon Cosmology Arteɲei came to them when they became a nation and left the Olympians to join her daughters among the Spirits. The Totems in turn set aside their original mantle and became the advisors and guides to Arteɲei and her children. In this manner Arteɲei is not a sole god, but is the Amazones connection to the universe at large. They as a people acknowledge other faiths and wholeheartedly respect them. What they dislike is when others attempt to interfere with their connection to the world. To them the ability to speak to the Spirits, Ancestor Spirits (honored dead and source of Ozikon) and the Totems is a major part of their identity as a people. For it was Snowleopard who taught them humility and strength and it was Runninghorse who inspired the first Rakei (queen).

Amazon Family and Clan
All Amazones claim descent from a powerful Clan Moiety (as stated above). They gain their clan through their mother and in turn can change it if their soul desire does not align with that of the Clan. Each Clan in the Nation had its purposes and connections born out of the original Band and Warband lifestyle of the people. Originally the Snowleopards were priestesses and leaders among the Tribe. The RunningHorse were calvary and warriors. The Longtalon evolved into scouts and hunters while the Stormcrows became masters of Lore. Over time this attitude evolved and the Clans took on different means with each in turn donating it's own powerful blood to the ruling Dynasties of the Nation.

Clan is more of a spiritual connection than a real descent. Amazonian kinship is marked by what is called and Ozikon (from the Greek, Oikos). Ozikon are an assorted group of common lineages that in turn are aligned with a given Clan. In the story of Arrow Child, the Asker  family claims descent from the Ozikon of Hippolyta, while the Alkaiel are descended from Alkaia.

Many surnames and family names can be attributed to one Ozikon. For an Ozikon is the Sisterhood (and brothers for those who are born Amazon as males) of bloodlines that descends from an honored dead or Ancestor Spirit. The actual connection one has to the honored dead in Amazo society falls more into an ideal of inspiration rather than actual worship. Unlike full ancestor worship, the honored dead are revered as guides much like the Totems. With each Ancestor or Ancestral Spirit group giving an individual ideology to their descendents via the Ozikons Codex, a special copy of the Amazo holy texts where all members of a given Ozikon are recorded. Some Codex are old enough to record several generations spanning several centuries.

Amazonia was a kingdom that lasted from the late period BC to the early centuries of AD. It did not fall until the eventual occupation of thrace and even then the local people were not crushed till a final uprising in Themiscyra by the Snow Leopard Clan under one of the later dynasties. It was then that the Romans sacked the city and every woman, man and child except a chosen few from each clan were sold into slavery or put to death. This is what is simply called the Chaining. A time from when the Nation was scattered to the winds and what would later give rise to the lost Clans of LongTalon and StormCrow.

Period wear during this time depended upon gender and status within society. Manyof the fashions found in Amazonia were tied to those found in Persia at the time and directly evolved from the former Steppe life the Amazones used to live in.

My dear sister drew me a few concept art sketches of this wear and I finally have had the time to paste it.

The follow is an upperclass politician or military figure:
The next piece is showing a middle class Amazon:
Amazonian wear tended to favor the ability for the legs to be unrestrained. They also favored a robe like design but did adopt some of the Hellenic designs introduced to them by first the Ionians and later the Macedonians under Alexander the Great.

Amazonian fashion in the modern day still favors head scarves and head wraps in a way. Owning a shawl with the totem of one's clan is often a sign of respect and a way for the younger generations to connect with their roots.

Amazons did have a warrior / ritualistic regalia that they all wore during times of ceremony or in specific actions of wear. The regali included a leather chest piece with trousters and then gauntlets and greaves. The person would then wear a mask that had a veil that covered the rest of their head. Regalia in itself was singular to the person who wore it and often not it was important to cover as much skin as possible. This was because the regalia evolved from the traditional Scythian armor worn by the Amazons before Hippolyta united the Clans after the death of the first Queen.

To this day Amazons still practice the wearing of their war regalia and often sometimes those of American blood with Native American heritage will often mix the two cultures to create something new.

I shall hopefully have a vocabulary of Amazo soon! Mostly because the next scene of Arrow Child has a few lines in Amazo.

A Final Jump

So after many long weeks of no work, I have finally started writing more on the main manuscript. It's not much and it really is only introducing the Alkaiel (yes Alkaies has changed). And a few more foreshadowings of everything that is to come. Most of which will deal with the unknown military group I have yet to name.

Arrow Child is also a title that has always made me wonder. What does that name bloody mean? Arrow Child is key to the plot in a lot of ways. It references Artemis, as seen in a song I wrote for the military group (who again needs a name, one that isn't lame too). It also references what the Amazones consider to be a sort of messiah. Note I am not leading up to some sort of epic hero story, far from it. Arrow Child is about a struggle, as with most great stories.

There is no hero per say in AC, but there is a message and many carry that message. Part of that message is that Amazons are no leather bikini wearing teasers (sorry Xena :( ). The Amazones were a powerful nation that arose in the wilds of Thrace and conquered the other tribes around them. It is the heritage of war, totemic shamanism, and to a land that they earned with every last drop of blood and lost sister in battle.

More on Tense and a Mention of Adverbs

So it has been a few day since the last post. And I wanna say that my dear sibling has completed a few awesome images depicting Amazo fashion! This means that the Amazones finally have their own style of clothing that combines Persian and Grecian styles.

Another thing to note is that the tense in Amazo is now called Aspectual Tense. The tense markers are formed using simple prefixes attached to a proclitic that proceeds the verb. Now the enclitic that precedes the verb usually stands fo rmood and in some cases the space is not filled.

My other major notes include rules on adverbs. The adverb is formed by attaching a prefix to either a noun or adjective. There are a few interjections that can become an adverb when they move to modify something. Otherwise all adverbs are formed using the given prefixes.

Friday, August 13, 2010

The usage of mood and tense is answered by a pro and enclitic system. All verbs conjugate into either Singular, Partial Plurality, or Full Plurality status. This refers to the amount of doers of the action. In turn to determine the time of the action and if it is complete one uses a proclitic that denotes the tense. To me the usage of proclitics means I can spend more time on being mores specific with time placement and worry less about the amount of verb changes one needs to create.

Mood is inferred via enclitics,

One thing I am considering is having a large list of moods which then cuts down on the declension of such nouns as pronouns. This would mean we would have an interrogative mood, that through it's usage in turns creates a question. This would mean that certain inversion principles aren't necessary in the long term to for questions. This also means that simple words meaning, who what, where and how are all that is needed in a way.

A full list of moods and tenses will be created as I do more work on the language.

The Amazo Clans

The Amazones are split currently into four large clans. Each had it's place and duty within the general culture of the Nation and even to this day represent a key set of bloodlines that add to the general tradition of the Amazo people.

The Snowleopard Clan, a group of Priests and the clan of the original Dynastic Queens. The Snowleopard is the oldest clan of the Nation and hold to their traditions with honor.

The RunningHorse Clan, founded by Queen Hippolyta when she fought the Achaens during the Trojan War. The RunningHorse has been the clan of the Warriors and Calvary officers for the past several centuries. Several of the later Dynasties also claim relation to this Clan.

The StormCrow Clan, formed by exiles in Northern Europe, they are a those that do their best to record the oral and written history of the nation. Some of most learned Shamanesses come from the this clan.

The LongTalon Clan, created when a group of Amazo were stranded along the Silk Road, the LongTalon over time married into the regions of India and in some cases China. They originally took up the old nomadic way when Themiscyra fell and were the last Clan to retake the oath to Artemis after the re-unification.

So after a while I've sat down and done a lot of work on the cases of Aɲazo (Pronounced Anyah-jo). (Amazo's official spelling).

The cases are as followed:
-Adjectives that modify the noun assumed the same case as the noun.
Nominative: The case that is assumed in all basic forms of the noun. This is the case of the subject of the sentence.
Accusative: The case that is assumed when the noun is the direct object of the sentence.
Genitive: The case that deals primarily with possession and is used for a variety of reasons.
Dative: The case that is assumed when something is given to another. The Dative is used for many other things including possession and the usage of passive and perfect past tense nouns.
Vocative: The vocative case doesn't cause any declension in nouns. It deals particularly with declaration and is often used when making prayers to the Spirits.
Locative: One of the two "irregular cases", locative deals with the location something and does not coincide with a Definite Article or Determiner.
Ablative: The Ablative is one of the two "irregular cases" and is heavily influenced by the Latin Ablative. It is used as a way to reference the movement of something and is often used for many other purposes the same the way the words "with" and "within" work.

The two Irregular Cases are layovers from Persian past of Aɲazo. The usage of Ablative was heavily changed with the Roman invasion of Themiscyra and the loss of Amazon unity. The one thing that kept the usage alive of the two cases was in fact the solidarity bred between the Clans as they were spread throughout the Empire. One reason why in fact that Aɲazo was revived was because of the identity the Amazons kept after so long. That even with the fall of their cities, that they still had the spirit of Artemis with them.

Amazo Indefinite Article And the Definite!

The Indefinte Article does not exist in Amazo. One simply uses the Definite Article.

Singular
Female
Male
Neuter
Nominative
ɩ
o
τɩ
Genitive
τηϸ
τηɩ
Dative
δω
τω
Accusative
την
τɑν
τɩ

Not a completely clean look, the given information is more to show the fact that a table can't copy right. However, after finally covering the basis of the Definite Article I can finally move onto noun stems! The sound change list is every growing also just to note ;)

Manchester, Oxford and the Asker Family

The Asker Foundation is part of a family of companies run and owned by the Asker Family. The Askers came to England during the 1960s when violence broke out in their homeland of Cyprus. Though some might consider it strange, the family lives along side the large Greek/Turkish community existing outside of Manchester in a small sattelite town called Rockhollow.

Rockhollow is a major enclave of various cultural groups. One of them being Amazo.

There is also a bad guy finally for Arrow Child. He has two henchmen, one being a former IRA enforcer named Lial.

Update...

A long week and little to no movement on Arrow Child. My friends got me back into Dungeons and Dragons. So now here I am working on a home brew campaign for them. I have started thinking about the general next scene of the story. Right now I want to focus on the family life of young Eleni and the interaction between her and her friends and relatives.

The one thing I do have so far is a villain like person and I'm developing a general plot. Once I get more work done I'll post the notes here.

Ciao ;)

Teeth out and Amazon names...

So deciding what happens in the next part of Arrow Child is taking a while. Most of it is sketching out names and getting an idea of the family dynamic. So the word amount is on hold as I slowly work on that. There has been no major updates on Amazo as I was jack by my guild mates for the week.

However I am back and I plan to post a few names for the upcoming section of Arrow Child:

Eleni Alkaiaes
Adelphi Alkaiase

I'll talk more about the two as the book progresses. All names in the book are subject to change as everything moves along.

Late late night...

After taking a break while working on Amazo all week I've started updating the skin for Oak Cross. Most of it is a basic addition of a few graphics. Hopefully it will help to attract a few more people ;)

So an update on Amazo and Amazon culture. I'm working on their clan system and so far I have two cans. The SnowLeopard and the RunningHorse Clan. Both are named after a totem which the Amazons believe they inherited after accomplishing something to impress the totem spirit. Each Clan is split into family base Genos lineages that then relate to each other via a concept of sisterhood. I'm working with the greek words Fratria and Patria to get a better idea of what this is. The current concept for the word is Muteria or ɲuteria. Which is a sort of role inherited via blood relation. How this works with the Genos I am not sure oO.

First part of the manuscript is finally done!

Just a quick update the first major part of Arrow Child is done. So I'll be able to finally move along. I've started developing the story behind how the Amazons gained their name and a I've got a few more words in Amazo-Persian ;). The Basics of Amazon culture are complete and I'll be sketching out more ideas for their society as time moves on.

Sorry for the short blog, I'll have a longer one up later today.

Summer goin in June...

Late night and four episodes of the Tudors later I made more headway on Arrow Child! Steadily catching up with the 2,000 or so words I'm behind by, I hope to have the first part done soon if not by this weekend! The only thing making me pause is a name for the family that will take up most of the story. Plus I need a name for a few others, but the good news is I've almost finished the basis of Amazo-Persian. Which once I can find a classical greek speaker I can start a derivation process to create Amazo :)

On another note, Oak Cross is gonna be 3 months old soon. And it is going well! The storyline is moving along at a good pace and I hope to add more to the forums as time goes on. I'm also looking at creating an accompanying site to store extra information on :)

Some more stuff on Amazo-Persian

So here are some of the basics of Amazo-Persian Phonology:

Amazo-Persian linguistically borrows greatly from Old Persian and Proto-Indo-Persian. It also has several heavy influences including the dropping of masculine aspects in many roles particular dealing with leadership.

Long / Stressed Vowels: /a:/, /e:/, /i:/, /u:/
Short Vowels: /a/, /i/, /u/

Stressed vowels are marked with a macron over the vowel such as in the case of “ā”,

Plosives: /p/, /b/, /d/, /t̪/, /ɟ/, /k/
Aspirations: /kʱ/
Nasals: /n/, /ɲ/
Fricatives: /β/, /θ/, /ç/, /x/, /h/
Sibilant: /s/, /z/, /ʃ/
Rhotic: /ɾ/
Lateral: /ɭ/
Approximant: /ʋ/

A small update with notes from Amazo-Persian

A few words on a minor conlang project, which is the precursor to another I will be working on.

ūrīta = strong
Nara = Woman
Mara = Man
Marā = Men
Patiŝ = Lord
Ijaŝ = Thunder
Āçila = Lady

This is a language that will be from a now dead branch of the Indo-Iranian family. Specifically it's closest would be Sanskrit with a few cognates in Persian. It is found on the pot shards found in a pontic greek settlement near the black sea.

A temporary hold

The work on the book will be slightly delayed as I have started work on Amazonian. A new language which will have Iranian and Hellenic influence. It will be feature in the names of some up and coming characters. The work will continue on as I have to make sure the basis of everything works :)

Finals are now over so I'll be free to finally work more on Arrow Child. Which is perhaps one of the hardest projects I've taken on. I've started looking into possibly contacting a few of the local professors to prep for researching that I'll be conducting to improve the project.

The Final push is almost there...

A short message is all I have time to leave. Arrow Child is going to be put on hold until I can finish my finals. But hopefully I may have worked on the plot for the series a bit more. More on that will be up once I'm freed of the confines of Finals week.

Finals near a stand still

I'm pretty dang tired of finals. I'm tired of all the damn writing and all of it in general. The assignments are actually interestings and aren't that bad. It's the quantity of them and the timeline that bother me. Everything piles up and pressed down. It's quite an experience if I say so myself.

So my final assignments are an exam and a written ethnography. The ethnography is going to be pretty cool and the exam I got some help from my groupmates to figure out how to go about answering it. This should definitely help! And I keep getting side tracked by stuff. Hopefully I can get back on track and get some more writing for Arrow Child done.

Masks and Tattoos...

Two nights ago I was viewing a few images out DeviantArt when I came across http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&section=&q=cherokee+clans#/d2ab2ua. An interesting image depicting masks of the seven Cherokee clans. And since I'm one of those people who loves tribal art it's been seriously influencing my ideas for the world of Arrow Child. Which right now I'm still keeping a slight lid on.

Finals are still moving along and honestly it's driving me nuts. That plus searching for jobs and what not I'm going to be damn happy to get the starting part of Arrow Child finished. I'll post an excerpt up as soon as it's ready :)

Peace out for now!

So the Journey Begins...

This is the very first post in a blog which I am somewhat wondering will be viewed on a scale. If so awesome, if not, well, I will at least have a place to keep track of my work :)

So I now have two major goals ahead of me. I ShadowedSin, hereby declare that by this time next year I plan to finish the manuscript for Arrow Child. And if anyone is wondering Arrow Child is a work that I came up with after much contemplation and thought.

Arrow Child is a euphenism for a young girl in her early days in Uni. Strange thing is that the name is derived from a well known group, the Amazones. Or as the name is also said, the Amazons. If anyone is wondering it is a modern story of how the Amazons in the real world have been dashed to obscurity and once again rise to reclaim their identity and their nation.

Other than that my goal is accomplish roughly 1,000+ words a week and to keep writing until the job is done. In general a 150 words a day would be best. Let's see if this can be done!

Here goes :) Notes on Amazonian Culture, and other Cultures in the world to come along with my search to find a job for the summer.
